WTC RECLASSIFICATION RETIRED FIREFIGHTER NEIL G. GIMPEL LADDER 134 - posted 5/2/2025

The Department has announced that the passing of retired Firefighter Neil G. Gimpel, L134, which occurred on December 30, 2024, was due to illness sustained during the rescue and recovery in the aftermath of the 9/11/01 attack on the World Trade Center.

Firefighter Gimpel was appointed on February 17, 1987, and served the Department until his retirement on May 30, 2009.

A private family service was held at Falowski Kalis McIntee Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

We thank Firefighter Neil Gimpel for his service, and especially for his dedicated efforts at Ground Zero.
