Back Pay, Pension Increases and Finalization
We have received many inquiries from retired members who retired after January 1, 2003. There are two separate and distinct categories of back pay owed to retired members who are not yet finalized. The first is the back pay owed to you while you were still on the active payroll. The second category is back pay owed to you after your retirement date and before the date of your finalization. Important Notice from the Retired and Active Fire Officers Family Protection Plan about Your Prescription Drug Coverage and Medicare
Dear Retiree:
You may have heard about Medicare's new prescription drug coverage, also known as Medicare Part D, and wondered what this new coverage might mean to you. That is, starting January 1, 2006, new Medicare prescription drug coverage will be available to everyone eligible for Medicare.
We're pleased to let you know that the coverage you have now – provided by the Retired Fire Officers and Active Family Protection Plans - is, on average, at least as good as standard Medicare Part D coverage. This is called creditable coverage. Click here to read more
SEPTEMBER 2001 COLA BENEFIT INCREASE
At the April 16, 2002 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the NYFD Pension Fund, Robert C. North, Chief Actuary of the City of New York distributed a memorandum concerning the Bureau of Labor Standards (BLS) Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for the month of March 2002. Based on this announcement, unless changed by a later revision, the September 2002 (COLA) Percentage increase equals 1%. Click here to read more
