Continued from homepage..... If you couldn’t make it, please speak to a friend that did. We are asking for only a few hours of your time. That investment may pay dividends that will last your entire lifetime. A complacent, “let the other guy do it” attitude may not have good results for you. Your Legislative Committee: Ed Boles (local), John Dunne (State) and Rich Alles (Federal) are already working on next year’s agenda. Your participation makes success more likely. We’d like to give special thanks to all of our retired members who took the time to help. Following the work, we all went out to lunch and had a great afternoon and early evening! The Crowley volunteers virtually took over “Zum Stammtisch” in Glendale Queens. In fact we took over both of the rooms in the restaurant as well as the entire bar! If you bring your friends next year, you can have your own table in whatever restaurant we’re in! Unified Call Taking – The problems with the Unified Call Taking System continue. The UFOA continues to pursue the issue. We need you to continue faxing us any unusual or problematic teleprinter tickets with a copy of the form you send to the Department. If you become aware of incidents that we should have been called to, but were not, please let us know about them also. Our FAX number is 212-292-1560. UFOA Website – If you have trouble gaining access to the “members only” section, please call the office for instructions 212-293-9300, http://www.ufoa.org. Beneficiaries – Remember that if your domestic situation has changed it is necessary to call the UFOA and update your beneficiary information. BISP – As most of you already know, as a result of the agreement between the Department and the Manhattan DA’s office, the FDNY hired two additional employees (one attorney and one investigator) to audit BISP. Twenty two of our Units were followed while on BI. Six Units were deemed to have deficiencies severe enough to merit disciplinary action. Thanks to the intervention of the Chief of Department, the Chief of Operations and the UFOA, the Commissioner agreed to reduce the proposed original draconian punishment (40 days pay and indefinite lifts) and spare two Officers any punishment at all. The audits have continued with no deficiencies noted. Notification – The UFOA asks all of our members to alert us of anything that they deem out of the ordinary, troubling or note worthy. Please remember that we need you to inform us! As you read through this issue, take a minute to familiarize yourself with the current Executive Board and the Committees that they are members of. If you have a question or problem, contact a member of that Committee. Stay safe and keep the troops safe. Alexander Hagan
