Light Duty Assignments

The Dept. has notified us that they will begin auditing members on light duty. All officers responsible for TPR entries should remember to comply with sections 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 of the TPR Manual:

2.2.1 Short-Term Details: For short-term details (less than or equal to 30 days), the pre-printed form should be forwarded by the permanent unit to the detailed unit. The detailed unit will fill out the TPR's for the period of the detail. This form would be included in detailed unit's weekly "batch."

2.2.2 Long-Term Details/Light Duty: All light duty entries and any exception events for long-term details will be recorded by the officer at the new assignment. After 60 days, an inquiry form should be forwarded to the Bureau of Payroll indicating the member's new work unit. The employee's events should be recorded on generic TPR's at his/her new unit until an updated pre-printed TPR is issued.

Officers with members on LD should ensure members location and tours worked prior to completing the 1 st weeks TPR's. In addition marks should be taken in the Daybook and roster pertaining to members on LD. Remember if you don't know where the LD member is working don't fill out his TPR.

Supervising Fire Marshal II

In our last contract settlement, the UFOA agreed to a new title of Supervising Fire Marshal Level II. It was agreed that the rank would be by appointment. On June 30, 2006, the Department promoted three SFM's to the new position. Supplement No. 37 to Department Order No. 53 referred to these members as Deputy Chief Fire Marshals. This is a clear violation of our agreement. We notified the Department and the Office of Labor Relations of this and they agreed to rescind the Order and identify the new title as SFM Level II.

UFOA – Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. “Fill the Boot” Campaign

The UFOA/FDNY's 1 st Annual Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. (MDA) “Fill the Boot” campaign kicked off on July 8 th and 9 th in Times Square. Approximately 30 members of the UFOA volunteered their time and over $12,000 was raised in the 2 days. The second weekend planned is August 19 th and 20 th . We are again asking for UFOA members (in uniform) to staff the various locations for both days from 1200hrs to 1800hrs. Any time you can volunteer will be greatly appreciated. The money raised in NYC will remain locally in the metro area continuing such existing programs as providing support groups, research, grants and summer camps. Please call Financial Secretary Jim McGowan at 212-293-9300 if you are interested in volunteering. Volunteers will assemble at the Times Square Information Center located at 1560 7 th Ave, between West 46 St. & West 47 St. at 11:00am. Thank you again to all those members who gave their time over the weekend, the UFOA appreciates it. A testimonial from FDNY Lt. Peter Kearney says it best:

“New York City firefighters put their lives on the line to help people and each other every day. I am asking my fellow firefighters to join me and my family in the toughest battle of all.

My son, Kevin, was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease and until a cure is found, his future is unknown. I ask you to join this noble and important effort – one that will bring MDA to its ultimate, lifesaving goal – cures and treatment…a goal that my family and I desperately long for.”
