GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER IN NY ADVOCATING ELIMINATION OF PUBLIC PENSIONS IN CALIFORNIA
UFOA JOINS LA COUNTY FF'S LOCAL 1014, TONIGHT, MARCH 7, 21 CLUB at 6:30pm
Today, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be in midtown Manhattan for a fundraiser in support of his agenda that would eliminate defined benefit pension in California, including those for firefighters and police officers. His proposed legislation would affect all public employees in California starting in 2007. This legislation would eliminate, among other things, line-of-duty pensions for firefighters killed in the line-of-duty.
Our Brothers and Sisters from the LA County Firefighters Local 1014 will be in midtown Manhattan at the 21 Club tonight to protest Governor Schwarzenegger's efforts. The UFOA will join the LA Firefighters at their protest tonight at the 21 Club, located at 21 West 52 Street, at 6:30pm. If any off duty member can join us, please call the UFOA immediately. We will be calling midtown Manhattan companies to ask any member coming off the 9x6 tour to join us. Also, if Governor Schwarzenegger stops by any firehouse in Manhattan, be respectful, but remind the Governor that NY firefighters strongly oppose his initiative.
Since being Governor of California, he has refused to meet with California Professional Firefighters and has vetoed numerous legislation for firefighters, including workmen's compensation and Hep-C presumptive bills.
