At the September General Membership Meeting, the membership voted to donate $50,000 to the IAFF Disaster Relief Fund which provides assistance to IAFF members directly affected by Hurricane Katrina. The UFA previously donated $100,000 to the Fund. I want to thank the membership for your generosity and I urge you to continue raising money at your individual firehouses. One extra dollar on the meal for a defined number of days will add up quickly. We have been on the receiving end of the generosity of our brother and sister IAFF members and our donations are greatly appreciated by those effected locals. The FDNY will continue to send personnel as requested and the FDNY Counseling Unit is providing peer counselors to assist the IAFF's efforts in Baton Rouge.

STREET RENAMING FOR LT. CURTIS MEYRAN
The Village of Malverne will rename Morris Avenue West in honor of Lt. Curtis Meyran on October 9 at 2:00pm. The ceremony will be held at the corner of Cornwell Avenue and Morris Avenue West. The Meyran family will be hosting a reception at American Legion Post #44, located on Franklin Avenue in Malverne immediately following the ceremony.
